The yoga sutras of Patanjali is the classical and foundational text of yoga. In 196 verses called sutras, the sage Patanjali has codified the yoga philosophy and methodology leading to the state of Samadhi. The word sutra means “thread,” and each verse leads to a continuum of knowledge that the sutra introduces. For more than two thousand years serious students of yoga have studied it and adepts have commented on it.

The classical text of Yoga Sutras by Patanjali is the most authoritative, universal and a secular text on yoga philosophy. Composed about two thousand years ago, it contains the philosophy and methodology of spiritual progress leading to liberation. In this module we would study the Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the text to understand the concepts like Yoga, Chitta, Nirodha, Abhyasa, Vairagya, types of Samadhi, Kleshas, and too many others to mention here. The format of the module will be based upon study of sutras one by one as well as developing a top level understanding of the processes and the methodologies.
